Theme: Musicals
And what a day we had this year!
Sunshine, some great floats with huge effort from the entrants and music from the the Warwick Girls Marching Band. Who would have guessed that the theme musicals would have given us TWO floats doing Bugsy Malone!
We did have a few technical issues with the PA system and I apologise to Tandy UK who supplied it, as it was me that blew it up by using an under-powered gernator (oops). Luckily he says not to worry and he'll supply the generator too next year!!
The event which is organised by volunteers of the Warwick Lions Club and is a fund raising event for the Lions charity, drew huge crowds all through the town. This year we have raised over £3000 of which 90% of all the money raised is used for local good causes.
The procession theme for this year was was judged by the Warwick Mayor, Coun Michael Kinson and the then Lion President David Shore. See the results page for the winners.
Once again a big thankyou goes to the carnivals very important supporters, David Rist Transport, Alleleys and Skelthers of Southam for supplying the trucks and drivers.
This years carnival queen and princess were in the lead procession cars supplied by the Rover Club. Unfortunately the Lions President was forced to walk the second half of the route after the Vintage Alvis overheated in the summer sun (it's never been driven that slow!).
The Pub Tug-of-War challenge drew teams from the local area, fighting for the much sort after Trophy and of course the barrel of beer as first prize, generously donated by the Slaughterhouse Brewery. Some serious competition resulted in some great pulls with a fantastic final between the Racing Club Tuggers and the reigning champions The Boars Head of Hampton Lucy (a serious team of young farmers!).
Another fascinating display of some of the largest birds of prey was again a great crowd pleaser. Amazing how close those birds can get to you and at such speed! Luckily no small children where carried out of the arena!
Hope you will join us again in 2011 as we try to improve on the points that needed attention this year. If you would like to get involved more, we are always grateful of the help and perhaps you have ideas to make it better! Crowd safety during the procession, traffic control and collecting money takes more people than the club alone can provide, so your help would be most welcome. We are of course supported by our local constabulary who take care of the traffic control, but even so there are more junctions than police! Can you spare some time?
